::the mom:: monthly applique block

It always makes my day to do some hand sewing. It takes me a while to choose the fabrics (but really is fun) and prepare to sew the applique.

Here is the finished project. This is my December block for the "A Tisket, A Tasket" pattern from Bunny Hill designs.

::the mom:: monthly applique block

I am still trying to catch up on this precious applique pattern called "A Tisket, A Tasket".

This is the October block that I just finished (to make myself feel ahead of the game!). Now I have to backtrack and complete the August block which will make me feel behind again. Oh well, I am still having fun!

I grew up with a Mom and a Gramma who quilted. They pieced beautiful quilts and then turned them into even more beautiful hand quilted heirlooms. I grew up playing under quilting blocks and tracing the quilting lines with my finger from underneath the quilts. And I grew up in a house where every bed was covered with quilts.

I made my first queen sized tied quilt when I was about 19 years old - I loved choosing the fabrics and placing them together to see the colors - and then seeing how beautiful they became as they were sewn together. I'm still new at piecing, and have never attempted the actual quilting. This is my documented foray into the quilting world.

Since my work is slow, I asked both my Mom and my Gramma and my sister to contribute. We'll document our ideas, and our fabrics, and our process. And hopefully we'll document our finished projects and quilts that are already in our family. In the process, I hope to learn from my Mom and my Gramma since we're too far away to do it together in person.
